How the tool works
The converter computes five things from your monitor's specs:
- Refresh rate ↔ frame time — 1000 ÷ refresh. 144Hz = 6.9ms, 240Hz = 4.2ms. Frame time is the budget for one rendered frame.
- PPI — from resolution and diagonal size, via the Pythagorean theorem. Determines sharpness at your viewing distance.
- Response time vs refresh match — flags if your GtG response time exceeds half the frame time, which causes trailing.
- VRR range — the FreeSync/G-Sync range (typically 48–144Hz, 40–240Hz, etc.) and guidance on capping FPS 3 below the ceiling to stay in range.
- Input-lag budget — adds frame time, half-frame display processing, and response time for a quick input-lag estimate.

Common hardware problems this tool solves
- "My 144Hz monitor still ghosts" — GtG response time is too slow for the refresh. Check the response-vs-refresh match.
- "My VRR is not working" — you may be hitting the ceiling. Cap FPS 3 below the refresh rate to stay in range.
- "My monitor looks soft" — PPI is below the desktop retina threshold. Check the sharpness grade.

Pro tips for monitor owners
- VRR (G-Sync/FreeSync) is worth enabling. It matches the monitor's refresh to your FPS, removing tears without big input lag. Pair with a -3 FPS cap to stay in range.
- Frame time is the budget, not FPS. At 144Hz you have 6.9ms per frame. If your GPU cannot hold that, you stutter — cap lower.
- PPI determines sharpness, not resolution. A 32" 1440P panel is softer than a 27" 1440P panel. Match the size to the resolution.
- Response time must match refresh. For 144Hz, target under 5ms GtG. Slower response causes trailing — see the Response & Ghosting Estimator.
- HDR is a tier, not a sticker. Check peak brightness and dimming with the HDR Brightness Tier Checker before enabling HDR.
