GPU tuning is two knobs, not one
Most guides treat GPU overclocking like one big "push the sliders right" exercise. In practice the core clock and the memory clock respond to completely different things, and pushing memory too far actually lowers FPS. The trick is starting from sensible offsets for your GPU tier and your workload, then stepping up carefully until the card tells you to stop.
The GPU Core & Memory Tuner gives you those starting points — power limit, core offset and memory offset — tuned by GPU tier, workload type and cooling quality, plus an estimated FPS delta so you know whether the tuning is even worth the stability risk.
How the tool works
Each GPU tier has a baseline offset profile. Workload multipliers adjust it: esports titles favor core over memory; rendering and AI workloads favor memory bandwidth; an undervolt preset drops power limit to ~82% for an eco build. Cooling quality scales the core offset — a card in a dead-air SFF case cannot hold the same offset as one on water.
The estimated FPS delta blends the core and memory gains and the power-limit effect, so you can see at a glance whether a High preset on a hot card is worth chasing or whether you should just undervolt instead.
Step-by-step usage
- Pick your GPU tier to load the right baseline offsets.
- Pick your workload — this changes the core/memory balance.
- Set cooling quality honestly. A blower in an ITX case is "poor."
- Apply the power limit first in MSI Afterburner (or your vendor app), then the core offset, then the memory offset. Test each step.
- Run a 30-minute stability loop — 3DMark Time Spy Stress Test plus your heaviest game. Watch for artifacts, driver crashes or FPS drops.
Common hardware problems this tool solves
- Artifacts (sparkles, colored pixels) in game — memory offset too high. Back off 50 MHz.
- Driver reset / black screen under load — core offset too aggressive or power limit too low. Back off core first.
- FPS goes down after a memory OC — error-correction is retransmitting. The memory is unstable even if it looks fine. Back off until FPS recovers.
- Card thermal-throttles after tuning — the offsets raised power draw past your cooler's capacity. Either undervolt or improve cooling. Check the Hardware Temperature Safety Lookup.

Pro tips
- Max the power-limit slider first. It gives the GPU headroom to hold its boost clock under load.
- Undervolting often beats overclocking. A good undervolt keeps 95% of stock performance at lower temps and power, which lets the GPU boost higher and longer.
- Step memory in +50 MHz increments. Artifacts appear before crashes do — stop the moment you see them, then back off 50 MHz.
- Save profiles. Afterburner lets you save stable profiles to slots. Keep a known-good one you can fall back to in seconds.
Tune for the game you actually play. A stable +5% in your main title beats an unstable +12% that crashes every other session.
